Common Neutral & Ground

Is it a code violation to have the garbage disposal and the dishwasher fed from a 4 wire feeder, with a common ground and neutral? They are each on their own breaker? All are #12 AWG. The 4 wire feeder is connected to dual receptacle box under the kitchen sink.

I'll let someone else spell out the details but if done correctly, no this is not a problem or a violation.

Why on different phases? Is it so that the neutral is balanced? What would happen if you didn't. Thanks

If the breakers are on the same phase, the neutral currents from each appliance will add together. Depending upon the load connected, the neutral current can sum to double the current on the phase legs.

If, by dual receptacle, you mean two receptacles on one device yoke, then take a read of 210.7(B).

The overcurrent protection must have handle ties, or be a dual trip breaker.
