Communication specification

We are always trying to keep our specs up todate and I've recently come upon where we call out cat 5 cable for data jacks. Is there a better way a phrasing the requirement to include cat 6 and cat 6e so that it will support higher commuication speed in the future? How are other engineers calling out communication wiring in their specs?

I think you need to better understand the subject and application rather than writing a blanket spec. The only way to design for the future of this technology is to provide for the expeditious replacement of any network wiring method previously installed. Network design is completely dependent on the user, thus the wiring method, whether UTP or fiber will be determined by the network designer after consultation with the customer, not by some meaningless spec.
