Is there any code that would prevent the installation of a network-powered broadband outlet along with a Cat-5 telephone outlet within 5' of a pool?

Re: Communications Outlets

I'm not talking about overhead conductor clearances. I'm specifically refering to the outlet point where equipment will be connected.

I don't know of any code that prevents this, but I can see your concern. I can just see someone handing the handset to someone in the pool. I believe telephones might have enough voltage and current capability to be a safety hazzard if dropped in the pool.

The open circuit voltage of a standard telephone line is about 50 volts, and the ringing voltage is about 90 volts. I'm not sure how much current they are capable of supplying.

I know thats not really much help.

Re: Communications Outlets

No code issue but I wouldn't recommend that whatever is going to be plugged into these jacks be used next to a pool. There is always the possibility of them being dropped into the water or someone in the water using them, neither a good thing.

I always recommend cordless in instances like this especially if the jacks will be outdoors. Easy enough to do today anyway. No matter what you do or what you use jacks always seem to corrode or cause problems after a few years of being exposed to the elements.
