communications wiring in single family dwelling

Hi,

According to the 2011 NEC, is it permitted to run CM rated communications cable, ie cat6 or rg-6 from a basement to the floor above via a hole drilled through the ceiling / subfloor? The CM rated cable will be outside any conduit.
