I've been looking for a solution....a vise or clamp etc that I can carry from the van to the work location that I can cut conduit or unistrut with, JUST FOR A FEW CUTS.....So Im not talking about a tri-stand vise.....Ive been sampling with c-clamps, squeeze clamps, ratchet straps, trying to clamp to my ladder. and havent found a solution yet, particularly for the sawzall...so much vibration....any ideas? maybe a small wooden miter box or something that clamps to the ladder......Help !! I dont want to carry that big honk'n tri stand pipe vise on a regular basis, and I want my cuts straight and nice....

I'm 49...
Hummm...got me there...no seriously there is room for a invention that would clamp to a ladder rung or something that would be sturdy enough for what Im talking...a sawzall takes two hands to cut straight IMO and you need something to hold the pipe or strut....

there's the "electrician's workstation" ladder which has tip out cradles for
cutting tube and strut.... and also has rings riveted level that you can
pass an emt axle thru for wire pulling, without the wire walking... and the
ladders are blue.... how can you go wrong with a blue ladder?
(i personally feel calling a ladder a "workstation" is pretentious, but
it's still a good ladder...)

stoop?

stoop?

A v cut into a 5 gal bucket works well.
Or lock it under your knee and steady it on your other leg and stoop. Works well with good knees but not so well with bad.
Use a band saw or underpowered saw saw.

Personally I hold it in my teeth and shear it off. Scares the help a bit.

A portable band saw works much better than a sawzall for cutting conduit and strut.

I still use a hack saw if I'm only going to make a few cuts. I just like to keep in practice. The secret being a sharp fine toothed blade and a high quality hack saw.

Ah...I used to be an electrician for amazon.com....everything is high....convienence....convienence sells

Has anyone tried a metal cutting blade in a cordless circ saw? I generaly dont like chop saws, but thought Id ask....

Milwaukee makes a cordless Metal saw, 1 handed straight cuts on strut are easy. Cuts way faster than a recip saw. I use mine for 3/4 rigid on a regular basis, less reaming and quick

I know you said you don't like the "big honk'n tri stand pipe vise" but I found a better tri stand vise.

Ridgid make a compact tri stand chain vise the 425.

I have one of these and it is perfect for cutting rod, strut or pipe.
It will go up to 2-1/2" pipe.
It can be set up and folded up with one hand. Just pick it up with the handle and it folds right up.
It is not that big when folded and goes easily in the van.

I had a welder make me a bracket that I mounted a regular 4" vise to that I can use in my tripod vise.
It is a piece of 2" pipe with a 6"?6" piece of channel iron welded to it.
Works great if you need a regular vice to drill out brackets or whatever.
