Is it acceptable to use a Ilsco 471 die to crimp on a HOMAC SA 2 N lug for a #1 AL conductor? The Ilsco is gold colored and I’m reading on T and B site that you need a gold die for #1. I know that some manufacturers prefer that you use only their dies but this is the first time I’ve used these Blackburn/HOMAC/TandB lugs?

Could you provide the link to where that is stated? A given die is not necessarily just for a given conductor size. Many of the homac lugs, including the SA series are not the standard color coded system. Homac has many lug series that take the same die over a wide conductor range.

The common die 8-1/0 lugs are all .625" OD. 1/0 AL compression lugs are .625" OD.

Not necessarily a UL listed combination, but a BG or 243 die crimps a tan lug just as nice as a .625" utility lug. A tan die crimps a .625" utility lug just as nice as a tan lug.
