The job I am working on now is for a commerical restaurant. They purchase a walk-in cooler, with its compressor and controller, all from a salvage job. Now whoever salvaged the compressor and controller left the wires that was used before attached in the sealtight. These wires are THWN-2, THWN, # 12. On the compressor nameplate reads 208/230 LRC 33 and in the contoller all I can find is 4.2 amps. Reading Tabe 430.251 (A) to determine the disconnecting means and controller using HP and Voltage. At 208 LRC is 33.5 for 1/2 HP.
I can't find the load current anywhere on the euipment. 440.6 says I can use the compressor nameplate. Do I use 3 phase 30 amp breaker to handle the in-rush current or going to table 430.248 says 1/2 HP at 208V is 5.4 amps, do I use a 20 amp breaker. Sorry this is so long.
