Computer Networking

I have recently been asked to bid a small office building, including the wiring for computer networking. The electrical wiring is no problem at all, however, I have not had many dealings with computer networking before. Can anyone give me some insight, or maybe refer me to some good websites that will explain this for me? :?:

Thanks,

If you haven't done this before this is not the time or place to learn. I suggest you pass on the data wiring or partner with someone who has experience.

Alternately you could just run the cables and leave the patch panel and terminations to others. Understand that even running the cables takes some specific knowledge.

hbiss,

I understand taht I may need to pass this work on to a more qualified individual, and I may do so. However, I am a one-man shop, and have an interest in learning a little bit about this, so I am not totally in the dark. I was hoping someone could point me to a website or two that might help me gain a baseline knowledge of the subject. Right now, when someone asks me a question concerning computer networking, I can't even beging to BS my way through it. It's all I can do to hide the blank stare.

I agree, I believe too many EC's are leaving too much on the table when they do not install the data/voice cabling.
BICSI is in the process of changing their standards, it may even be on their website.
Between the two posted websites, you will have a good start to help you on your way. Good Luck!!!
