Good Afternoon,
We have been awarded a 6 Story pour in place concrete parking structure. THe GC has opened up the spec for installation to surface EMT or
PVC/Carlon encased in pours for our lighting rough. We have about 100 Strips each floor. I do not have extensive experience with these types of structures and would appreciate any feedback. Our preference is to run PVC. Has anyone used a box rough in for strips that works superior for this type of application? Any trade tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Things you didn't mention was pedestrian exit signs, and Safety call box's!
Car Chargers, utility receptacles.

Yes it's fine to use poured in place (I'd use deep) cast boxes. most times you'll need the depth to ride above structure rod and be a attachment height to lower structural rod. This will most times eliminate use of hot boxes or bending to suit low drops.
I'd make sure to use a short (matching structural) rod and strap down the top of the all box ceiling boxes. Extra lashing for all PVC runs in concrete the concrete man will not care, and their vibrator will take care of the rest. You going to have to check with the former if you can strap through with tie wire in their floor (along with rod on top of cast box) and use the eyes(if any) of the cast box, if not drill a screw and 2x lash each box in an X application.
X lashing is independent of structural framing!

Be sure to cleanly apply duct tape to all ceiling boxes, and be sure to cover the screw holes. You should also consider a rag in all boxes, condensation will happen in both
pipe and boxes, The sun exposed PVC with draw condensation out of the concrete as
it ages, and if rained on even if poured but not released from form.

Get complete cut sheets of all equipment your going to install!

Someones going to have approve your work being around columns!

At column's run a 2" or larger PVC (Engineer approved) complete through pipe to be
a vertical raceway (creating a hole for future pipe) runs for security (call boxes) or lighting, for other required circuits. You should have some horizontal requirement
between any through floor pipes. Allow PVC placement to be bracketed in place to free of forming and vertical support framing, your going to have to get with framer.
You could do it flush to bottom of form and just a 1/2" to 1" AFF. Then cut is back down flush.
Most Call Boxes are now I-net cable and they always ask for larger pipes. Assure Dia.
allow for future pipe, you will get cocked pipe through floor! Have a good mechanic
run it vertical and address out the offset up high.

Your going to have dedicate one man to chase any column work and another
with helper to layout lighting boxes, then two pair once floor opens up. You have to follow and know where the former and the rod buster is, daily.

Did they make a standard raceway chase design or a home run typical application to bring these pipes through concrete from various floors to your main gear?

Pull strings in everything you can, light boxes not so much but as soon as you can,
push or blow a string. Have a good vacuum.

I'm frankly surprised that they don't form a cavity on the under side vertical web
for you to run your work! They did on both jobs I worked.

Both parking decks I worked everything was exposed, and drilled into ceilings.
One was rigid and one was EMT with Liquid tight fitting. On one we used exposed MC that was slipped through a gap between floors to each electrical room per floor.

The use of a story pole was a must; which is a standard length (usually 15') of pipe off a same point to align lights. Running a jet line is the same but somethings cumber sum if a cavity ceiling is encountered.

You'll have to get a real good feel for the layouts and get the Rod Buster on board if they have to move
rod or you have to cut it. Cutting usually requires double bracing where you remove the original.
Get a small grinder or get a chop saw!
