Hello all,

I'm in a bind again. Again with floorboxes. This time I need to put a recessed floorbox cover into the concrete so it is flush. Anyone ever done this?? Any tips would be appreciated.

Not sure I understand your installation? You only need to install a floor box cover and not the box?
 
Are you needing to install the box now before the concrete is poured, or are you needing to adjust a box that has now had concrete poured around it?

My floorboxes was suppose to go under a sales desk and were 8' off. Luckily I was able to cut concrete under the sales desk and find my pipes and patch it. Now I have my floorboxes out in the middle of the exposed concrete floor. Off the top of my head they are wiremold 880 mp but not for positive. The customer has a contractor that comes in routers somehow around the box and puts a brass coverplate on flush. I am trying to remedy the problem on my own to evade back charges. A grinder would do the edges but the corners will be tough.

Will the PVC boxes mount perfectly flush or is there a ring that goes on top?

I understand they can be cut flush, but for the cover to be perfectly flush there needs to be a mounting ring just below edge of the concrete to mount the cover in, and not on top of.

Is there a PVC floor box that does this?
 
Carlon makes one with a series of notches along the inside of the box, so it can be cut off to match the floor. The notches hold on to the finish portion of the system kind of like a 'ratchet'.

Yes, but does the brass cover have a larger diameter than the PVC box?

I installed about 500 of those boxes in a store remodel.

You can get a 'Tile Trim' which is the diameter of the box itself. But that would not help, to use the tile trim you flush cut the PVC to the cement and the brass sticks up so the floor tile guy can but up to it.

To get the brass flush with the cement the PVC box would need to be cut at least 1/2" - 3/4" below the cement

Yes, I can see that it does which means it would not mount perfectly flush, which brings me back too: Hubbell B2536 with S3925 Cover

I have had a difficult client week, over this very issue...

How much does it stick up? I had a problem like this a while back with some boxes that had the floor poured much lower than they were supposed to - even though the screed lines were on top of my boxes.... The GC set them all with me so it wasn't my bag, but I ended up being the guy to create a solution for it and paid to do so...

See if you can borrow, or justify the purchase of one of these... Great for delicate - odd cutting in corners, and hard to reach areas... I will warn you - that tool is expensive and slow...

Get the diamond rasp, and work around the box to the edge of the cover to maybe recess it to FF.

Short of that I'd say run it over a few dozed times with a 40 grit floor sander. ;)
