Guys, old Question regarding fill. Nec 05" 314.16 b-1 says each conductor that originates outside the box counts once. so two #12 romex equals 4 cond. plus 1 for both egc. for a total of 5 conductors. yes? 314.16 B-5 says single volume allowance for egc. so only count one allowance for all egc's even if you have more than one?

That is correct. Also any clamps and devices would add to this total.

thanks for the response, I'm surprised they (NEC) dont count the egc's as individuals, because they take up alot of space inside the boxes?

It is slightly a surprise, if you have 8 grounds coming together, you only count one, it seems a littlle strange, since it's not dependant on the grounds being bare, rather, just that they are grounds.

Good point Dennis, and to tell you the truth I actually never really though about that, Like sparks said they take up just as much room as any other conductor.

Yes but they very seldom do anything but sit there. Does make one wonder why the weird count. Good question to ask an inspector. OOOPS
