2008 NEC, Article 310.11 states that "All conductors and cables shall be marked ---". This statement implies that the conductors within cables are required to be marked. However, the conductors of many cables (NM-B, SER, etc.) are not marked, but the outer cable covering is properly marked. Are there other code articles that permit the conductors within cables be to unmarked? If not, how do we deal with the first sentence of 310.11?
