Conductor to large for terminal

When installing a 100 amp breaker with 2AWG SE cable feeding a 100 amp sub-panel the neutral bar terminals in the dwelling unit 200 amp panel are not large enough for the 2 AWG aluminum SE cable conductor. What is the proper wiring method?
 
Butler, your installing electrician should know where to get the propper lug

Just so you know, you cannot use a 100 amp breaker on #2 SE cable unless it is a feeder... and since you said it was for a sub-panel, the biggest breaker you can use is a 90 amp...
 
Cutler Hammer used to make an adapter that connected to two screws in the neutral bar and then had a lug for a large conductor. A device such as that may be available. I also believe that T&B makes a device that would allow you to connect a copper pigtail to your aluminum wire. The copper conductor may be enough smaller to fit your existing lugs.

A 'sub panel' needs 4 conductors, Type SE cable has 3, unless it is SER

type cable your installation is NOT code compliant.

Square D has a lug adaptor for your scenario which will accomodate the #2 on the ground bar that you would have to install in a sub-panel. Most of them you'll need to remove two screws and add this lug which has two feet to go into the ground bar, problem solved.:grin:

Unless it is for 240 Volt loads only, where no neutral condcutor is needed, such as a large heat pump scenerio.
