If you had 8- 4" RGS conduits mount on strut off a wall at 16' off finished floor and could get a lift to the location would it be impractical do install off a ladder?
Yes maybe scaffold but curious about doing off a ladder.
 
This is a frequent theme with you. Why are you wanting to put guys on ladders so often? Rent the lift. Whatever it costs you will more than make that up just in the lack of resentment from your crew.

Go get a five gallon water jug from your office and carry it up the stairs from the first floor to the second floor, raise it up chest high, pin it against the wall and count to one hundred. Then do that again eight times. Then do it again, all day.

With a weight slightly over 100 pounds per length scaffolds or ladders are not suitable for installing 4"RMC at 16'. I've installed miles of 4" RMC off of ladders back when I was young and dumb and not only is it dangerous a lift would be much faster.

I hear ya. In a situation where can't get lift to area.
 
As a practical matter scaffolding is a lot cheaper than the extra labor from trying to use ladders to work 16 ft off the floor.

Even if you could use ladders, you're high enough off the ground that you would need some kind of tie off point to attach your safety lines to for the guys that are working off the ladder. I think you'd probably have to tie off the ladders too. How do you plan to do that?

Even with scaffolding how do you plan to get the very heavy pieces of pipe 16 ft off the ground? I suppose you could use a forklift or something but if you can get a forklift in there you can get a lift.

So could scaffold be used in this case? It's 8 runs together. The run is 8 conduits. They come out of a box 3-4'' the turn 90 degree, then go 10' then turn 90 degree. and that's the extent of the high work.
 
One guy on one ladder, no. Two guys on two ladders, maybe.

A rolling scaffold may be a reasonable substitution for a lift.

But, you'll still need the two guys. Two big, strong guys.

Well the best option is a motorized lift. If you cannot use one of those then a scaffold would be the second best option but at 16' AFF that isn't going to make it easy just safer than a set of ladders.
 
Perhaps you could attach hooks to the wall some distance above where each conduit needs to be, and then use two block and tackle hoists to lift them into place. You'd probably need someone to man each hoist while others are attaching the conduit. You could probably remove and re-use the hooks when using appropriate anchors.

Ladder nameplates max out @ 250-300lbs. A 200lbs man + 100lbs pipe is pushing 300lbs.

Now we know how rental ladders are used & abused.
