I have a situation where wall space is needed to install a control panel for a jockey pump. The panel will be fed from a 15A3P 480V circuit breaker in a distribution board nearby. Due to the equipment layout in the room, the best place to put said control panel is on a wall that already has a conduit (1" GRC) installed on it. The conduit runs vertically on the wall and contains wiring for a 120V damper in nearby ductwork.
The question: Is it code compliant (2011 NEC) to mount the control panel on uni-strut, over top of the existing conduit on the wall? Would 110.26(E)(1)(a) rule this installation out? Is the uni-strut considered to be part of the depth of the equipment (control panel), and therefore the existing conduit is "foreign to the electrical installation?"
