Re: Conduit Fill

I think pipes are for water and things that flow.
Conduits are for wires.

From an online dictionary.
Conduit:
1) A pipe or channel for conveying fluids, such as water.
2) A tube or duct for enclosing electric wires or cable.
3) A means by which something is transmitted: an arms dealer who served as a conduit for intelligence data.
4) Archaic. A fountain

OK, let?s give the guy a break. I would like to see a show of hands. Please raise your hand if you have never used the word ?pipe? to convey what is more properly called ?conduit,? and if you have never heard anyone else use that word without correcting the person on the spot.

Anyone?

I don?t see any hands. :D

Re: Conduit Fill

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

The answer would be about 60 give or take depending on exactly what kind of "pipe" we're talking about.

20 amps if they are control or signal cables.

But if they are power or lighitng conductors, we would have to derate to 35% of the 90 deg. rating of 30Amps. That would be 10.5 amps.

Are you permitted to limit the load on each branch to 10Amps and still use the next size breaker of 15A? I'm not sure. But I think you are suggesting 2 conduits would probably be a better way to go, and I agree.

(I assumed all conductors are current carrying).
