Conduit Fill

I met a gentleman that says: that the equipment grounding conductor(s) do not count for conduit fill for the number of conductors in a conduit.
 
The words "conduit fill" pretty much sum up the counting of conductors. If it fills the conduit it counts. I hear this from time to time from other electricians too and wonder where they've learned this.:-?
 
I believe people get confused between conduit fill, where the EGC matters, and derating a certain number of current-carrying conductors, where it does not.

I believe you got it. Interesting that for box fill the EGC only counts once. Why is that-- 4 nm cables in a box and the EGC counts one time--hum.

No wonder everyone gets confused.

What had pulling got to do with the number of EGC's in a box being counted as one? UR comfusing me Pierre.

Probably because the EGC's don't contribute to heating; they merely take up space.
