Have a project where NEMA 4X disconnect and control panel equipment was provided. The space this equipment is mounted in is not corrosive or wet, it is a typical dry location. Electrician connected conduit to the NEMA 4x enclosures, but did not use methods to upkeep the NEMA 4X rating. Owner sees this and thinks this is a problem and contractor should have used methods that would uphold the NEMA 4x rating.

Is there anything in the NEC that you are aware of that would require the installer to use conduit connection means that uphold an enclosures NEMA rating, even if the space it is mounted in doesn't require it?

I would say nothing in the NEC, but the specs for the job may have required it.

Local Home Depot has a NEMA 12 combo starter where set screw EMT fittings were used to supply it.
