First I want to mention I'm not an electrician, but I do have some electronics knowledge, and I'm installing a solar array on my house. I ordered a kit, which comes with 100ft of wiring for connecting between the solar panel and the inverter. The wire has MC premolded connectors and is labeled UV resistant and 600V rating. The DC voltage can be as high as 500V. My question is, can I run this wire through an air vent in my roof, through the crawl space (between ceiling and roof) and down through a wall without conduit, or is conduit absolutely necessary?

There is nothing we can tell you here except hire a professional.

The fact that you want to run 500 Volt DC down an air vent of the building you live in speaks volumes as to your quifications to do this work.
