We have been asked to install power to two Flood Gates so they can be Raised and Lowered. The owner has requested we run the conduit a long the Catch Basin wall to supply power to the actuator. This conduit would be underwater for the majority of the time and only be exposed when they drain the Basin for cleaning. Was gong to install a cable that is rated to go in the water in the conduit. Not sure if the NEC allows any conduit to be installed underwater?

NEC considers underground location and conduit may be full of water at any time. . Where you are talking will be fine. It must be physically protected from under water hazards like fishing and boat anchors would have to be discussed. But that does not sound like where you are at.

The wiring types whilst a lot are rated water proof some types are made with extra attention perhaps double with thoughts of it being under water. (Better Insulation) Look in to that and tell the inspector the type. He should be okay with that.

555.13 (3) is about as close as you'll get as 680 is pretty much for pools ponds with equipment.

The water in the Basin in run off from the City Storm Sewer. Is there a type of Conduit that the code will allow Sch.80?

This is feeding an old ship converted into a restaurant in NYC. Looks like some type of stainless steel conduit. Barge Power.jpg

For wire, use xhhw-2, cross linked polymer, far superior to pvc . The insulation is thicker and tougher than pvc (thhw)
