Conduit Requirements

Our company is working on VE for an overbudget project. The project is wood frame Multi-Family student housing. Is electrical conduit required in wood frame construction in the Multi-Family occupancy group? Can we eliminate all or part of the conduit as a cost savings?

That is truly a matter for your EC and local AHJ to decide. The NEC does not say "conduit" is required.

The NEC does not require pipe and wire for this. You could change to MC, AC cable, heck you might even be able to use NM and plastic boxes.

Yes I believe it is still true, for all of Cook county, IL. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they are required to use metallic plumbing also, both supply and waste.
