conduit supports

Installing a 4" conduit W/ 3-500mcm to steel I beams, anyone have any supports or hangers they are particularly fond of in this type of application.

I would use 3/8" caddy beam clamps with 3/8" rod to a mini, thats how almost all of our conduits are run.

Now if weight is an issue, use 2 3/8" beams clamps, 3/8 threaded rod, use uni-strut and use strut clips to keep the pipe from moving. In other words, build a pipe rack. This is fairly quick if you know what your doing and have no obstructions.

I suggest a trapeze type rack with split straps (Kindorf, Uni-strut, PowerStrut, etc), and 3/8 hardware (beam clamps, rods, etc).

or...depending on the application....clamps:

Lots to chose from :)

Depending on the length, number of bends, vertical/horizontial "ness", etc....the mini's might not survive the tugger's efforts ;)

I'm with Celtic. Go with the Appleton beam clamps that are in his link. Unless of course the beams are at different heights. Then I would go with a standard 3/8" beam clamp, rod and minerallac hanger. You don't want to have to bend offsets in the conduit. Also 3-500's in a 4" conduit is a lot more pipe than you really need.

Sounds familiar but what is a "kindorf rack"?

A "kindorf rack" is really a trapeze pipe rack....

"Kindorf" is a brand name...like "band-aid" is really an "adhesive bandage" - no one ever asks for that :)

Kindorf - Unistrut - Power Strut...etc, is all the "same". By "same" I mean it is a U shaped channel with an interior lip (to lock a split strap into - you can see the lip in the left image)....BUT....not every manufacturer's strut can use other manufac.'s straps. There are some differences in the actual dimensions.

Dduffee260 and Celtic,

Thank you.
LOL. A Trapeze. It is funny to me, the many terms used to discribe things in various parts of the country.

Thanks for the replies guys. My main concern was a long 90 sweep going up to a 5' length of rmc. I have a kindorf rack before the 90 but after it I was looking for some kind of adjustible vertical support clamp that was an easy install. I just ended up using 2-1''1/2 kindorf together drilled through the I beam. Any comments would be appreciated.

Beam clamps, rod, and rack are the easiest most adjustable method...aka trapeze.
