I used EMT (I think that's what it's called), because it was cheaper, to run an outside NM-B wire to an outlet for a swimming pool pump. Now, I'm worried that I should have the conduit called Rigid. Also, I just realized that the NM means non-metallic, does that mean I shouldn't have used it in the metal conduit?

You may be in over your head, so to speak. This forum is not for DIY'ers. Pools require certain wiring methods, for specific reasons relating to electrical safety and water. Do your self a favor and get a licensed electrical contractor to help you out, it will save you time and money, and violations on your electrical inspection.

I would strongly urge taking Tom's advice. As an inspector, I have probably caused more home-owners grief on swimming pools than any other electrical installation. I have also called the state licensing investigators for swimming pools than for any other reason.

Please call a qualified electrician for this job. I have seen too many pools wired in an unsafe fashion. what is at risk could be a life. I'll tell you what my first boss used to say about "side jobs". Quote: "Anybody can make it work.. Can you make it SAFE?"

Zero you have the same answer from a instructor a inspector a contractor and me an installer.

Pool grounding and bonding is more complex then any other wiring in a home, even experienced electricians can have trouble with the grounding and bonding requirements.

It is obvious from your question that you need an electrician.

Incorrect pool wiring can kill your loved ones.

If this is "regular" NM it is not to be used in wet or damp locations.

Please listen to the above expert advice.

ZERO:

I recently had a pool installed, after reviewing the work the electrical contractor did the first day and discussing with him what I wanted. I threw him off the job and finished the job myself. I have 33 years expierence doing most aspects of the trade. It took me sometime to review the NEC and figure out all the nuances pertaining to pools.

While there are some things DIY'ers might complete, believe me this project should be left to experts.

The pool company I threw off the job specialized in pools. The work they did complete was rejected three times.
