The question came up in a trainning class the other day...I looked in the NEC....nothing ...

Im really looking for a definition of each.....would the UL White book be the answer...

This has to do with our use (or mis-use) of terms in the electrical trade. We commonly refer to "EMT" as conduit, when in reality it is "Electrical Metallic Tubing". It has to do with how it is referred to in the NEC. My students are always surprised when I ask them to look up the requirement for installing "Romex" in the NEC. They are surprised that they cannot found them. I then expain that they need to know that "Romex" is a brand name for type NM Cable and they need to look up NM Cable.

Conduit is category of raceway which has many subcategories under it. Such as rigid, PVC, flexible conduit, EMT, etc.
