CAN YOU RUN RIDGID CONDUIT ALONG THE TOP OF A CHAIN LINK FENCE.PURPOSE IS TO MOUNT A LIGHT BY THE GATE.

there is existing 1" pvc conduit which runs from
the building 50'under the parking lot to a 480 gate operator.We are removing this operator.I am going to install 2 277
volt lights above the area of this gate.I was going to use the existing conduit but when I pulled the wires back to the building the wires were soaked. I could remove the existing conduit and replace it but I will have to tear up the parking lot to do it.The existing fence is 10'
high.

Ed, I would still use the existing PVC. Water in the PVC is quite common. As long as your using wire with the proper insulation,with a"W" in it such as THWN you will be OK.

Thanks GSERVE I didn't realize it was common for water to accumulate in PVC conduit underground. The existing wire is THHN.I would assume that THWN
is more water resistant than THHN.

I have seen applications of THHN/W in conduit (with water) that have failed. If a critical application XHHW is a better choice.

I have run lots of rigid along chain link fences at our airport with fiber optic cables inside. A good way to secure it is to back to back two 8" pieces of strut on either side of the chain link. Then strap to the strut.
