Re: conduits capacity

I'm not aware of any sites.

Just knowing the fill capacities of certain sizes of conduits is not enough. There are several other factors to be considered.

Maybe if you list your intentions, we could help?

Re: conduits capacity

By birdfoto, "i thought there a section in the code that delt with conduit fills? How many wires of differant sizes you put in a conduit. like how many #12's in a 2" emt ect."

By tom baker, "Chapter 9"

By birdfoto, "as i said earlier i don't have a code book, is there any web site that deals with that"

By Roger, "You can go to the NFPA website and for a fee, probably the same as buying a code book, find what you're looking for.

Roger"

By birdfoto, "If anyone knows of a web site that shows the charts of conduit fills & ampacities please let know at, birdfoto@globalcrossing.net"

By Roger, "Your profile says you are an electrician, why don't you have a code book?

Roger"

I combined the multiple posts into this one and deleted all the others. Charlie :)

Re: conduits capacity

For a three year code cycle, the code book costs about $0.32 per work day.

Why would I want to waste my money for my job?

Re: conduits capacity

I hesistated to even post "Chapter 9" but I did as the NEC index is not easy to find this, of course its in the table of contents. I hardly bother to figure wire fill anymore. If its that close I use larger conduit.
And wire fill hasn't changed much since the 99 cycle. Birdfoto could buy a 99 nec used somewhere.

Re: conduits capacity

Even if you don't have a code book, I think everybody in the field should at least keep an "Ugly's book" in there tool box.

Re: conduits capacity

Trivia: Do you know the price of the code book has increased 6000% since 1965?

And now it will be free :(

Re: conduits capacity

If you call yourself an electrician in any area that uses the NEC there is No excuse for not having a copy of it to use, the code book is a tool of this trade.

I have the uglys book and mine has errors in the RNC fill tables, it is a handy reference but I would not use it to exclusively.
