Confused by construction types

Hi. I’m starting a bid on a 5 story hotel, construction type 3a… construction type III, IV, V Nm-B is permitted. I’ve looked up what type construction 3a is, it says non-combustible walls but Wood floors and ceilings. I’ve looked at the plans and it seems the rooms are wood framed. Question, IS NM-B PERMITTED?

Barring any local amendments, NM-B is permitted in type III construction.

But if there is a meeting room with more than 100 person capacity that peticular room is a "place of assembly" so no NM in that rooms walls. This still allows you to wire in NM in the rest of the hotel.

Double check specs because hotels are usually national and if national there may be specs that they just don't want to show you that are referenced in the contract.

It's changed a few times and then there's lots of state amendments that be been kicking in. NM for a past 3 cycles has be construction type dependant for sure I'll have to look up ent

One issue with NM is that you can't install it above a lay in ceiling in other than one and two-family dwellings.

But if that's what's going on here it just needs to be done behind the drywall and then good to go.

A lot of these types of facilities, at least the ones around here, have lay-in tile ceilings in the common areas. Just open structural members above the lay-in tiles.

Ent is the one with hight limitation. Don't know why it does and nm does not.

Every hotel I've seen has a fire ceiling above or normal drywalled ceiling. Only big retail I've seen have direct framing members above drop ceiling
