we have a flush mounted meter as well as a flush mounted breaker panel. We will be connecting the two within the 2x6 walls. My question is do we need to run conduit between these two or can will simple using the service wires running within the walls meet code? Also, if we use conduit it will have to be 1 1/2", will that affect the integrity of the 2x6 studs?

POCO rules will also apply. It's best to touch base with them before you start.

You can use a cable between the meter and the panel unless you have a local code that say otherwise. You cannot use wires unless they are in a raceway.
