Connection between lightning earth pit and equipment bonding

Perhaps it's the terminology used but I don't understand your question.
A separate earthpit for lightning arrestor(LA) and separate earthpit for equipment earthing. And we connect LA rod down conductor to LA earth pit and equipment body connect to separate equipment earth pit. But these earth pit are internally connected together under ground.
Why different earthpit as they are connected internally finally. Also I read if we have two LA rod .we shall have individual earthpit n downconductor for each LA?
