Customer wants to have a 120V duplex receptacle in a small (6X10) aluminum storage trailer to run a small compressor. He is a carpenter and will use the trailer to store tools on jobs. He wants to run a heavy extension cord (#12-SO) to power it. What is a good way to have an external connection for a cord where the cord is removable? I'm thinking the connection on the trailer should be a male twist lock but I can't picture what I should use that would be better than a bell box with a flap that seals off the connection when nothing is plugged in. Or would I have to use one of those code keeper covers? That would stick out pretty far and I don't know if the cord would even fit in the enclosure. Someone must make something for this.

It's called a power, or flanged, inlet. I installs just like a receptacle, but it has male blades instead of female slots. This one is an L14-30, but you can get them for most any NEMA configuration:

Then again, if all he wants is to run is the compresser, why not just plug it into the cord itself???

He doesn't want the cord running thru an open door

Thanks for response
