Connection to Carrier AC Compressor

I am running a new 40A circuit to a Carrier AC Compressor. I have the wiring to my service disconnect nad have liquidtight conduit from the service drop into the AC Compressor. This is the first time that I have hooked up an AC compressor and I am not seeing how I should attach the conductors. There do not appear to be any screw terminals for wiring. The HVAC contractor did not leave the manual for me but there is a schematic on the inside cover of the AC unit. It clearly shows where to hook up the conductors but there are cooper "blade" style connectors. What am I missing here?

I would suggest getting the boss out there to take a look at it - I would not want to buy a new A/C after miswiring it.

It's the beauty of on-the-job training. :)

What is your usual specialty?
 
I agree with George. A hint would be that you should be looking for the contactor that will open and close to turn the unit on and off.

the 208-240volt supply hooks into the main contactor, usually it is a lug style or spade type terminals connection.

terminate the supply conductors at the contactor, line 1 and line 2, there should be a lug for the ground connection also.
 
Good advice. These days, you usually have to run the supply conductors directly into the wiring compartment and terminate directly to the contactor (relay).

As Steve said, look for the EGC lug. Don't be suprised to find a single-pole relay with a solid bar for the second pole, since you only have to break one line.
 
Thanks for the advice guys. I took a second look and there is indeed a screw terminal on the contactor (exactly where the schematic shows it to be). I am thinking that a copper compression terminal fitting is the best connector for the job. The funny thing is that the factory connectors are the cheap tin blade type connectors.
