Perhaps this is a silly question but it's one that comes to mind from time to time. When installing a fixture with a canopy, do you typically tuck the connections up into the box or let them float in the canopy?

Either way, depending on the size of the box and how crowded it is. For a pancake box the conductors usually end up in the canopy.:)

For me, it's real situational. The way the fixture attaches to the box will determine some of it. If I have to hold the fixture while I make the last wirenut connections, then I'm likely to have already folded the other conductors and splices into the box so they are behind the fixture strap. The less I have to fuss with before the fixture is against the ceiling, the better.

The hardest box to stuff is usually a 1-gang metal box mounted (barely) in an exterior wall with the fixture strap almost blocking the whole box.

Added: Oh, yeah. I try to stuff them into the box, but it depends, as above.
