Can you use a two screw connector (romex) to secure a ground or bonding wire THHN from grounding electrode or water main going into panel.. If not what article states this.. Thank you

I have used #4 bare cu with no connector what so ever. Usually there are two 1/4" holes

in the back center of the tub, on each side of the large knockout. I do not imagine any

violation using a two screw romex connector.

I just wonder if you be required to use a bond bushing on it, but I usually do what you do, use the factory 1/4" knockout.

I alway use the 1/4 hole in the back of panel with no problem from rhe AHJ. I thought that was what the hole was for. I have seem NM connector used before, seem alright to me.

I just shake my head in wonder....

I guess it all depends on where you learned the trade. Even where I'm at now, where the standards are quite low, the practice is to run the GEC within PVC pipe. I've never been where they allowed a simple copper wire strapped to the wall.

It's possible that my current location once did; at my latest service change there was evidence of the exposed water bond wire having been broken or cut.

That's why, at least in my experience, the practice has been to run the GEC in some form of raceway: to protect it from lawn mowers and thieves.

Make no mistake of it; I've seen grounds crews go to exceptional lengths to damage electrical stuff; it's as if they think it's funny.

Others have reported entire subdivisions where every house has had the GEC cut and removed, sometimes before the first owners move in.

For me, it's pipe all the way.

Although I don't believe it's a violation, I don't like that option as the GEC just seems to float through the panel. I always take out a 1/2" KO and use a romex connector. Just seems more "finished" to me.

To each his own. There are times that if you used a 1/2" KO for GEC that you can run out of

avaiable KO's on that end. Yes there is the other end of the panel. Side entry KO ? As a last

resort.

#4 bare is stiff enough & holds its shape that I am satisified.
