hello new to forum ahj failed inspection today because #8 ground from mdp to disco switch to elevator not green i realize code says #6 or smaller not to be phase taped or is there a execption (stripping back insulation)

Take a look at 250.119.

Equipment grounding conductors of the wire type #6 AWG and smaller must be identified by being bare or if insulated, the insulation must be a continious outer finish or green or green with one or more yellow stripes.

Just stripping back the insulation for a little ways does not work.

Thanks for the reply. I will have to re-pull the ground. I was not trying to cut corners or go against the code; I thought that perhaps there was an exception. I have done it before, but no one has ever corrected me at inspection.

Violating 250.119 has been done by every electrician. Many times those teaching us don't know the rules. But the NEC has drawn a line in the sand. 6 AWG and smaller, it must be green.

I'm one of those electricians. I'm lucky I guess,because I learned at a young
age,to stop just accepting my co-workers interpretation of the NEC as law,
and just look it up for myself.
