What does your state, territory or province require (if any?) for continuing eduction. We are required to take 16 hours once every two years in order to renew our personal licenses.

Alaska - every two years, documented at renewal. Must be on the NEC - I think it says on current code.
8 hours for electrical administrator (probably similar to a Masters license in most states)
16 hours for journeyman

It generally ends up being the 16hr class for the EA caust that is all that is offered.

NC requires 8 hours every year but you can accumulate up to 3 years. I generally end up with extra hours- wish I could sell them...LOL.

I think 4 of those hours must be classroom related

In Florida, Electrical Contractors are required to obtain 14-hours of CE every two years. This includes 7 hours technical, 1 hour workers’ compensation, 1 hour workplace safety, 1 hour business practices, 1 hour Florida Building Code advanced module course, 1 hour Florida Laws & Rules, and 2 hours false alarm prevention (for all certified and registered alarm contractors and certified electrical contractors who perform alarm work). The rest are general hours.

Electrical Inspectors and Plans Examiners are also required to obtain 14-hours of CE every two years. This includes 2 hours in the area of accessibility, 2 hours in the area of Florida law and rules and 1 hour in the area of ethics. The rest are technical or general hours.

Electricians 24 hours of continuing education for a 3 year renewal, 8 hrs Code Update, 4 hrs State Rules, 12 hrs industry related
Trainees, 48 hours of classroom only training, must pass a written test 70% correct, for a 2 year renewal period.
There has been bills introduced in the last two legislative sessions to require journeyman and residential electricians to be in an apprenticeship program. The pass rate on our state electrical exams is pretty dismal, first time for residential is 22%, journeyman (or now its journeylevel) is about 55%. These pass rates have not gone up since the requirement for trainee classes started in 2007.

To that I will add that this is the same requirement for Electrical Administrators (of which I am one). I will also add that the course work must be approved in advance by the Department of Labor and Industries. They publish a list of approved courses.

Utah requires 16 hours every 2 years to renew a journeyman's or masters license. 12 Hours must be NEC and 4 hours may be industry related.

New Jersey Electrical Contractors License: 34 hours every 3 years.

NJ HHS Electrical Inspectors License: 15 hours every 3 years. Am I the only one that sees a problem here?
