when testing continuity between neutral and ground; should I have continuity on the load side (lights) side, with the homerun wires disconnected. Or is there a pinched neutral etc.

Neutrals and grounds are all connected together back at the panel so there should always be continuity. You would need to disconnect both ends and then see if there is a connection

Welcome to the forum.

If a neutral is disconnected at the source end, it should be as isolated from ground as a hot conductor.
