Re: contractor referral program

I have been with Service Magic for a long time, They helped me buiuld my sales from around 100k-120k to last year sales of 750k. Pretty good for a guy who has in buisness for only, well my fourth year now.

On the downside, it is expensive. They sell you leads, no promise of sale. And you get alot of people just feeling the water and trying to see what it might cost them to get something done. And they don't care that you just spent 40 bucks for their name and number. You just spent $40 dollars to tell them that they can't afford it right now.

But as soon as you learn to read what they write for their info (before you pay for the lead) You will soon learn who is a better hit to buy.

And also on the downside, if you run into problems with the contact it is your fault and you could loose your service. This sucks, because all they have to do is call and say anything negitive and you don't get any leads until it is cleared up. Guilty until proven innocent. I say this because I did a job for a lady who in turn ran out of money. I tried working with her to get her debt taken of, it did not help. So I finally went to the courthouse and filed a mechanics lein on her property with a movment to forclose. So we will see in court. In return, she filed at the BBB and service Magic and the States Attorney General, just to try to make things hard on me. She did not relize that I keep very accurate records of all work, materials, before, during and ater pictures and video. And record all Phone calls on my buisness line.

But all that aside, I am temporairaly not getting leads from Service Magic. Until my proof passes in court. I am guilty until proven innocent, and they won't have anything to do with me.

But over all my experence has been good with Service Magic. I am just pissed off right now.

Re: contractor referral program

I've been approached by an organization called BNI (Business Network International - they have a website - www.bni.com) but I chose not to join because they require that you attend weekly (2 hour) meetings and I knew that I would not be able to do that. The principle seems to be a good one in that they will only bring in one type of service per chapter. So, in your case should you decide to join, you will be the only electrical contractor being referred in that chapter. That's not to say that other chapters will not open up in your area but as long as you are an acreddited member of that chapter you will get referrals. It's worth looking into but I would choose the chapter I joined carefully. I believe the initial fee to join is around $ 250-300.00 and than a $ 75.00 fee per year after that.
