I am studying MH Grounding vs Bonding and came across art 250.54(E) which speaks to the wire size required for supplemental electrode bonding ( not required to be larger the #6 CU or #4 AL) then I read on and come to 250.64(A) which does not prohibit the use of an insulated Al conductor but it does seem to prohibit the termination. Is my line of think on the right path.

Example; if I am bonding 2-8' ground rods together I can not make this connection with an AL conductor according to 250.64(A).

the prohibitation on AL is specific (18" of earth, in contcat with masonry, etc) not general.
where not prohibited, it may be used

IMO no you could not use AL for that, now if you bought 10' rods and left 24" sticking out you would be all set.

troublemaker... does a tree mak noise, right ?
Is a grounding electrode an electrode above ground :D

Now to stir the pot - what if I said that you couldn't attach the GEC to the portion of ground rod that wasn't in the soil? ;) :D

George a ground rod is a ground rod over it's entire length, even when it's laying on the floor of your truck.

A rebar is just a rebar until it is inside concrete.
