Hi, New construction, planning for future light controls, automation. The thought was to wire the house as normal per code and then add a 600v rated control cable 4 conductor feeding into each 14/2 switch box. The other ends of these control cables terminate in a junction box in the dedicated service room.

I know I will probably get a buch of  for this but it's just one approach.

One of the control lines will need to be ground and run back to the metal junction box. The ground might need to equal 14/2.

I'm not sure if the control wire size would need to equal the 14/2.

I would guess the other 3 control lines would be wire nutted together.

H'mm what else, wire specs to equal or exceed NM. Maybe routing seperate from NM.

What will the AJ think. Thought I might ask here first because you guys know everything.

Instrumentation Tray Cable has the rating but someone (web) stated they are forbidded in lighting boxes. Searching for that now.

727.4 Uses Permitted
Type ITC cable can only be installed in industrial establish-
ments where the conditions of maintenance and supervision
ensure that only qualified persons will service the installation.

Not good for me.

This is no different than 0-10v wiring needed in a switch box for dimming controls.

At some point there is a place where the line voltage and low voltage are going to come together in the same enclosure.

The code tells us what cables can be used for this type of install, and, if, and, where they need to be separated and actually by how much.

By the time the home owner can think what to do, technology will be ahead of him; 4sq box with 2g mud ring and a separator plate w/ko. Run some cat5.?

Technology is moving toward less cables, not more. It's amazing what can be done with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth today, just think what will be capable in the future.

My point too!
Just picked up a Raspberrypi 3b, size of a pack of smokes!
