Realizing that this is an NEC forum, I thought this crowd might nevertheless have input on this.

Our fire smoke detail for electrical and fire alarm requirements. (i.e. the part of the story for which I as an electrical engineer am responsible) requires that a fire alarm control module be provided such that in the event of a specific duct smoke detector being triggered, the FA system tells that CM to open or close the damper as required.

A question has come up as to whether or not the Fire Alarm may communicate to the BAS system and have the BAS system control the damper (something it already does for non-emergency functionality of the damper.

I believe the answer is yes provided the BAS system is UL listed for this type of life safety functionality.

a) do you agree with that and
b) what would be the specific UL listing that the BAS system would have to have.

Thanks,

Mike

a) Yes
b) Probably UL864; Siemens Desigo is one such
