Control Panel Distribution

I have an industrial control panel that has a 700A main breaker. I'd like to distribute from the breaker through a distribution block to feed a couple of VFD's, an A/C, and a couple of control transformers. I have a distribution block in mind, but here's my question: how do I protect the wires from the load side of the 700A CB if I have to distribute down to a 1kva xfrmr? I can't fit 2 500MCM wiring into a 15A 1 pole breaker. Any ideas?

Install the distribution block as you said fed from the breaker. Install fuse blocks sized according to tour load needs to distribution block. Your wire only needs to be sized for each individual fuse block within the panel. (tap rule). For instance your VFD needs 30A, install 30A fuse block with #10 from distribution through fuse block to drive. Same with transformers and other loads in panel.

Allen Bradely makes some really nice din rail mounted breakers and or breaker I.E.C. starter combos. As was said earlier your wire only needs to be sized for the load being served.
Another thing I do in control panels is tap my control transformer conection ahead of the main (with proper warning labels and overcurrent protection of course)this way you can dry run and troubleshoot your controls with the 480 off.
