yes you need power..normally by the front door area..and how are they wired depends on type..normally they are daisy chained and are smart detectors..means the devices have addresses and the control unit can tell who and where they are..this is a commerical unit not home detectors..let clarify one thing the control unit gets the power only..the devices are feed from the unit on seperate wire..
