These lights are used on aboveground swimming pools. The ones in question are the ones that are part of the water supply to the pool. They are lised as being a convertible. The following is an extraction from the ul pool guide.

Convertible Underwater Luminaires For Aboveground Swimming Pools. These luminaires are initially configured as underwater luminaires for aboveground storable swimming use (see Storable Swimming Pool section). They include provisions for the one-time field conversion of the luminaires to underwater luminaires for aboveground non-storable swimming pool use. Once converted, these luminaires are not suitable for modification back
to their original configurations.

How does one convert to the non-storable use.
Does anyone have any documentation?

Thank you in advance..

Not true....At least they might have it locked in a vault! I have tried two manufactures and none have instructions availible at the time of phone call. I am waiting for design engineers to call me back....

What I am wondering is, has anybody used a plug in luminaire on a pool capable of holding water in a depth greater than 42 in.? Has anyone been tagged for such, Or has anyone done this conversion????

Jim

I have one of these.
device:
Transformer with intergrated water resitant covered push button switch.
Power cord is about 3' long, low votage cord is about 20' long.
Combination through the pool wall light and water return fitting (water actually flows around the light fixure itself.

The instructions to make them permanent, if use with a permanent above grd pool, requires cutting the power cord to within 5" of the transformer body. This is done so that connection of supply wireing can be made inside it's " snap on" attached box. The box has a threaded opening for a 1/2" pvc or watertight nipple in it's bottom and a cover with gasket for weatherproofing of the box. The low votage is supplied from the transformer via a cord containing one pair of wires which are not polarity sensitive but is wet location labled. It passes through a groove on the back side of the box, but not through or in side the box, downward and over to the light. The instructions tell you to cut this cord to the length of 5' for use when mounting to permanent pools.
Mind you, this makes repositioning the transformer at a later date nearly impossible without another box to use as a splice point for the lowvoltage and the power supply wireing.
I can't figure out why when using this with a storable pool you can have all this cord supplying the light but supposadly not when it's permanent.
Only thing i can think is that it would be convenient to have the transform at the point of entry into the pool for turning on the light. Still seems to close for me and a sure sign of a problem.
What do you all think?
