Copper field NM

While walking a project today that a superintendent friend of mine is over, I noticed that the Electrical contractor had run copperfield nm (in all the normal colors ie white ,yellow,orange)to all the respective house circuits. But while looking at it I saw the white was 12-2, yellow was 10-2, and orange was 8/2 or 8/3 for the dryer and water heater. Anyone else run across this unusual color sheathing. This was brand new wire and all UL listed. The bathrooms, garage and kitchen circuits where all 10-2 in yellow sheathing.
 
Who makes that NM cable? I see that Cerro wire has their own funky colors.

Any chance that the conductors are copper-clad aluminum? That would make the jacket colors match the standard colors as far as conductor ampacity.

However there is no requirement in the product standard or the NEC that specifies a jacket color and the manufacture is free to use any color he wants to.
 
Could be. I’ll check tomm. But the crazy thing is it’s still same size as non copper clad. Who wants to cut in 10 awg and trim switches and outlets on number ten.

Have never used copper clad, but have used the new alloy aluminum single conductors when it was briefly available in the mid 70s.

The 10 AWG aluminum used for 20 amps circuits was easier to terminate than the 12 AWG copper used for those same circuits.

As far as I know the new alloy aluminum was never used in NM cable.
