Copper Pipe as Conduit

I have recently seen some low voltage installations where installers used copper pipe (water pipe) as conduit. Customer relayed when the job was installed he didn't want FMC, PVC or steel for appearance, but preferred copper since it will patina. I cannot believe this is permissible. Thoughts?

If they ran a cable assembly through the pipe then it's just a sleeve. Copper pipe or any pipe for that matter can be used as a sleeve. Any photos?
