copper prices

Better start buying some wire that you regularly use now. As soon as the supply houses find out about this their prices will increase irrespective of whether they have purchased any wiring at new prices.

" The reaction to the earthquake was overdone and from all accounts, the production impact of the earthquake on the copper market was relatively minor," Merrill Lynch analyst Daniel Hynes said.

Analysts expect any stoppages to be caused mainly by power losses and to be of short duration, possibly only a day or two, rather than because of any major mine damage "

I got a quote on wire yesterday because I noticed the price dropping a bit. Then the quake, now this comes out. I started to buy, but I may hold off for a bit because copper usually drops in the winter months, or it has lately. Vendor called me two weeks ago with a distress signal saying wire was going up 12% that day. Then instead of going up it goes down. Now days vendors are like car salesmen, seems like you can't trust any of them.

yep i had to quit listening to that a long time ago. one called me yesterday and said he had an excellent price on some 2x4 lay-ins that he really needed to move. i told them to fax me a quote. i picked it up this morning; price was $41.00 ea.; i normally pay $42.50 for these from the same supplier. big savings!

I work for a wire manufacturer and I can tell you that a lot of people are taking this advice. We sold more wire yesterday alone than the whole rest of the month before that.

That would be difficult, even hypothetically, since I am not a salesman. :) I work on the manufacturing floor, and if I were to so much as pick up a scrap piece of copper off of the floor and put it in my pocket instead of the scrap bin, I would find myself suddenly unemployed.

you don't put them in your pocket silly; it goes in the band around the inside of your hardhat. haven't you ever worked on a union job? :D seriously though, is it like working in a diamond mine?

When I first hired on I wondered how they got by without armed guards, but then I noticed the video cameras...lots of them. Rather than attempting to prevent a theft, management decided to record EVERYTHING so they can just go back and look at the tapes if something disappears.
