Hi all,

Wanted to get your thoughts on using alum SER 6-6-6-6 for an electric stove. I know some don't like to use aluminum for anything even for service, but is it worth the savings over 8/3 copper? Stove is gonna be on a 40 amp breaker.

For stoves we use copper mainly because I hate using the larger wires. Above 60 amps we go with aluminum. There is nothing wrong with aluminum

If you are feeding a receptacle I say AL is fine. If you are hard wiring a cook-top or oven the CU is probably more economical. I have not compared the cost difference recently but in the past the average run in copper is about the same or even less than AL by the time you add AL connectors (Polaris or split bolts w/tape) to the cost.
