I have a 15 hp 240 volt 3 phase piece of equipment with a name plate rating of 42.9A. I am needing to connect it with a cord cap and body as the machine is moved from the shop to the job site. I am having trouble finding the answers I am looking for in the NEC. Question 1, Does the cord cap and body need to be HP rated? Question 2, does the cord cap need to be sized to the circuit breaker (80 amps) that is used for short circuit protection or to the name plate amperage? if required to be sized to the 80 amps does the cord then need to be up sized to the amperage rating of the breaker. NEC articles referenced with the explanation would be very helpful.
