Cord-and-Plug Connected Luminaires in Pool

I recently received shops from a VERY well respected, nationally known pool vendor. These shops show underwater luminaires (furnished and installed by the vendor), with the note that I should provide a 120V recep at least 5' away from the water for the lights to be cord connected to. This is a fixed, permanently installed pool. My interpretation of NEC 680.7 does not allow this. Even if it did the cord could not exceed 3'. Am I missing something here?

I agree with your interpretation. It sounds like they are mixing other code requirements concering receptacle outlet locations with their equipment that do not apply. I would contact a representative of the company and get an explanation to ensure it is not a misprint or out right mistake.
