It is my understanding that if an appliance comes from the factory with a flex whip on it that it needs to be hard wired and if it comes with no whip or tail then the electrician puts a cord tail on the appliance; I have a GC that the two of us are in disagreement; He claims that you can put a cord cap on a flex whip and has seen this done numerous times; Am I incorrect?

Re: Cord Caps

I didn't spend a lot of time looking, but the articles I think are relevant would be: 348.6, 406.6 and therefore 110.3(b). Flex connectors and cord caps must be listed and therefore must be installed within the parameters of that listing. I have not seen any cord caps that are listed for flex connection. Sorry, I wish I had more for you, but I still don't think its permitted.
